Humanity has rapidly developed scientifically and technologically in the last few centuries. Accordingly, societies now enjoy economic abundance and are becoming all the more subdivided and complex. Many experts are fostered in each subdivided field and their expertise and special skills are becoming greater. However, just as the advent of the smartphone showed us, the 21st century society demands convergence of man power and technology together with subdivided expert sand technology. It is becoming all the more important to create new inventions and to innovate technology by creative lyinte grating the sub dividedexpertise.
Korea University (KU) and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) established the KU-KIST Graduate School of Converging Science and Technology for the first time in Korea based on an academia-research center professor system to foster world-class convergence science and technology experts who can meet the current social demands. To commemorate this important milestone and make it widely known, we have prepared today’s symposium on the theme of Current Status and Future R&D Directions of Converging Science and Technology.
The purpose of the symposium lies in examining the latest trends of major research institutes and the government policy direction for “convergence research” that is being conducted in many countries worldwide by inviting distinguished Korean and global scholars and heads of research institutes.
