Dr. Sang Yup Lee, a research professor (supervised by Prof. Dong June Ahn) who obtained a doctoral degree from the KU-KIST Convergence Graduate School of Korea University, has been selected for the '2023 Sejong Science Fellowship', which is one of the Young Scientist Support Basic Research Projects supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea.

This project aims to support young scientists who have obtained a doctoral degree within the past 7 years or are under the age of 39 to grow into key scientific and technological talents in Korea. Selected researchers will receive research funding of KRW 130 million per year for 5 years. This year, 150 people were selected across all fields of science and technology, including natural sciences, life sciences, medicine, engineering, and ICT convergence. Among them, five early-career PhDs from Korea University were selected.

Dr. Sang Yup Lee is working towards the ultimate goal of developing a new concept of freezing catalysts that can precisely control the freezing and thawing phenomena of water, based on the subject of "Development of Water-Ice Freezing Catalysts Based on Molecular Dynamics Theoretical Interpretation." To achieve this, he plans to conduct differentiated research by applying a convergent research methodology that combines both theoretical and experimental approaches, ranging from computational chemistry to material synthesis and experimental evaluation.
